Boxing Day Edit

Usually on Black Friday I focus on Christmas gifts and getting ready for the season, but Boxing Day is all about what I would like to get for the year- stocking up on basics that I’ll wear a lot.

Here are my picks for this year:

I am trying to keep my more minimalist wardrobe approach, so I don’t think I’ll get a wild amount this year, but here are a few things I always reach for:
My favourite turtlenecks, which come in a zillion colours and are light enough to layer but can be worn on their own if you don’t live in the Great White North :- ). This knit one looks amazing, and this black one is a steal!
Skinny denim! My favourite black jeans (which you know I wear 1-2x/week) come in regular and cropped options. For blue, I usually wear J crew skinnies in a 9-inch rise. I like straight or boyfriend jeans for the weekend.
This can be a great time to get a deal on cashmere! I usually check the Bay, Aritzia and J Crew. I love my J Crew boyfriend v-neck cashmere sweaters for work or weekend and also have a cashmere hoodie that feels like maximum luxury.
Can’t forget the best shirt– seriously 100% machine washable AND not even a tiny bit see through. I have a white and I wear a size small (at 5’9″, it’s not quite as long on me as on the model, which I like). I’m thinking about getting this sweater, too. This white blouse is a steal on sale.
For tees, I usually go with Madewell or Aritzia.
My usual running gear in the winter consists of leggings, a long sleeve tee, and my Saucony runners. I sometimes wear a band if I don’t have a phone pocket (holds keys + credit card + wayward headphones, too!).

The Everlane Day Heels have been so worth the investment- definitely the only heels I can run around in all day. I have black and am thinking about brown! They basically broke the internet – over 4000 reviews!
These Tretorn white sneakers have been with me forever and a new pair every few years goes a long way.
Over-the-knee boots on sale!
We are of course in love with our Blundstones! At every Christmas gathering the front door is just a happy pile of various sizes and colours of these amazing boots. (In case sizing is limited, Nordstrom carries them too: Mine, Jan’s). I’m considering a black pair, but I have Madewell chelsea boots that are similar.

I really like J Crew trouser socks for men and women! Smartwool, Balega or Stance are our favourites for being outside.

I usually check out sales at Victoria’s secret (I like their no-show underwear).
The most comfortable bra (and sports bras!)
I almost always wear a silk tank or cami in the winter because it’s so much warmer. These are a fave.

I really love the Lucy Williams x Missoma necklaces.
I have worn this belt to death since getting it, so I’m planning to pick up one each in black and brown. (J crew has a similar one).
I like to get a couple of pairs of pantyhose, both in opaque and sheer black. I also have a pair of sweater tights that I like a lot.
In general, I love my sunnies (similar.. I’d like to get these for a lighter option)- one time someone on the skytrain asked to buy them off my face! (There are more subtle ones avail at Nordstrom)
Of course in Vancouver you also need a good umbrella– I have this one but I love this one too!

I think everyone needs a good coat- I like this one for super cold weather, this for milder days and this one for rain. I love the look of this one, and it’s named after Vancouver!
Of course we also love our Arc’teryx for playing outside!

While I’m at it, I pick up a few consumables that I’m sure I’ll use through the year- my trusty dry shampoo, (or, ahem, the set) classic mascara and under eye concealer, favourite moisturizer, and sunshine drops!

And that is 99% of what I wear on the average Fall or Winter day in Vancouver! Will you get anything for yourself this year? xo
