We held our wedding at the UBC Boathouse, a beautiful venue on the Fraser River. For the past few Saturdays I’ve been sharing little details, like getting ready, our first look, and the ceremony itself. Today I thought I’d post a few photos of the Boathouse and our simple setup!
We decided to set up the big main room with long tables and seated our guests all along them.
As the night went on it was so wonderful to see different people meeting each other for the first time or catching up after months or years.
Our amazing caterer, Boy With a Knife, spoiled us completely with a specially designed menu of local foods. We chose wines from the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia’s famous wine region.
We had a hard time choosing favours- especially in my family’s Italian heritage, they are very traditional, but I didn’t want to give people trinkets that would collect dust. We settled on beautiful handmade soaps, which have our names and the wedding date on the label.
We had a blueberry-lemon-elderflower cake from a local shop, which I thought was the best. For Jan we made sure everyone also got creme brulee!
The tables were set with gold chargers, simple white tablecloths, and the guest’s menu choice. We added garlands of ruscus and seeded eucalyptus, plus votives and chunky white candles.
As the night went on it got more glowy and beautiful.
We kept it fairly simple but I love how it all turned out!
Photographs by Christine Pienaar. The venue is the John MS Lecky UBC Boathouse. Our wonderful caterer was Boy With a Knife, and the food was incredible. Overhead fairy lights (and ladder climbing!) by Sitka. We could never have pulled it all off without day-of coordination and setup by Gordon from Petite Pearl Events.
